A funny feeling washed over me as I zipped up my coat, grabbed my bag, and stepped off the train. A funny, yet amazing feeling of satisfaction and self understanding. I had just run into a women I used to teach cardio tennis to last year named Hillary. As the train chugged along, we tried to catch up quickly, her station stop growing near. She thanked me for helping her lose her baby weight and then congratulated me on going full time as a wedding photographer! “Why weddings?” Hillary asked curiously. “Why not babies or families?” “I just got married two years ago”, I explained. “I love everything about being a part of someone’s special day. Everyone is so happy and the couple’s excitement for their bright future just brings me so much joy!” Hillary smiled at me, wishing me good luck as she went on her way. It was at that moment it struck me. I finally knew what I really wanted. For so many years I had searched for my purpose in life, and now that I had finally found it, it felt really good.

Another dream of mine came true this weekend. My husband Matt actually agreed to work with me at a wedding! To be fair, he was already attending as a guest…and I didn’t give him much of a choice…but it still was an amazing experience. Whitney and Jason (my sweet bride and groom) chose to see each other for the first time when Whitney walked down the aisle, a tradition Matt and I honored as well. This decision left us to shoot all their portraits at dusk! In preparation, I purchased the Ice Light (an amazing device that basically allows you to carry around window light in your pocket) and I asked Matt to hold it for me. As my second shooter Mekina gathered the family for portraits, Matt held the Ice Light at a 45 degree angle from Whitney and Jason. His help allowed me to capture their portraits without flash, giving the photographs the romantic, dreamy feel I was looking for! Not only that, it fulfilled one of my dreams of working with TWO of my best friends on a wedding day.

What dreams has God given you? Write them down, pray for His guidance, and start taking the steps to make them come true. 🙂
