BRANDING YOUR BUSINESS AND BRANDING YOURSELF

I think back to that college class often.  “Marketing and Brand Recognition” taught by Dr. Caudill….it was by far my favorite.  Maybe because Dr. Caudill was great at tying our lessons to real life situations, maybe because I just love the psychology behind what different companies do to attract specific clients.  Either way, I looked forward to that hour all semester.  One of the most interesting lessons focused on colors and how they made people feel.  Soothing green, happy yellow, royal purple.  My favorite color was red.  Representing confidence, energy, and love, I was instantly attracted to the vibrant hue and the way it made me feel.

When I started my business, I wanted to make sure my branding represented who I was and reached the specific clients I wanted to attract.  I took the fabulous Promise Tangeman’s (a graphic designer) advice and looked in my closet.  After all, what you decide to put on everyday says a lot about how you want the world to see you!  🙂  One color made an appearance over and over again, red.  I decided at that moment that this color would play a major part in defining my brand and worked on incorporating it throughout my website, blog, and client packaging.  My hope was to draw in confident, outgoing couples who loved love just as much as I did!

As important as it is to establish a clear brand online, I believe it is equally important to incorporate that brand in your everyday life!  By putting forward a clear and consistent image to the world, you are able to give people a great idea of exactly who you are and what you stand for.  More importantly, others will begin to identify your brand on their own and and will gain a feeling of comfortability and trust when they see it.

My favorite way to embody my brand in everyday life is through my wardrobe!  A sparkly red sweater, a splash of red lipstick, or a chunky red necklace (donned separately of course).  When worn to a client meeting or wedding, these items present a consistent image of who I am and what I want to attract, couples who are confident, full of energy, and in love with love.

If you are in the process of branding your business, consider figuring out small ways to brand yourself as well!  Doing so will build recognition, comfortability, and most importantly, trust.
