Part of the reason I got into this profession is because I love being creative. I also love to tell stories. Walking through the city streets I see them unfolding all around me. Beautiful stories of beautiful people. A couple walking hand in hand, stoping for a quick kiss before going separate ways on 5th. A man feeding the birds, covered from head to toe with the tiny creatures. A musician playing his sweet violin on a gondola, gliding softly under bow bridge. Many weekends I would take my camera in and capture these stories, loving every minute of it.

Now I get to tell the greatest stories of all, the stories of couples in love! I have the opportunity to capture their endless joy as they commit to spend their lives together on their wedding day. I can’t imagine any profession in the world that would make me happier! One thing I aim to do in my photography is to create unique and artistic images filled with emotion! While I am confident I have learned to anticipate emotional moments well, I have been feeling the need to challenge myself more artistically! Let me explain.
I LOVE Pinterest, and I will be the first one to tell you to sign up if you don’t have it! It is so great for inspiration, especially for brides planning their big day. Many times before weddings, I will go on and check out my client’s Pinterest boards, just to get a feel for what they like. After all, my main concern is pleasing them! As great as my intention is, sometimes I feel like I am hindering my own creativity! As I recreate certain poses (while trying to add my own twist) I feel a nagging need to dig deeper, to try something new!

As an artist, I think it is important to not only fulfill your client’s needs, but to also fulfill your own! Challenge yourself to create something new; push yourself to the next level! This month, I am hitting the NYC streets, looking for new inspiration in an old favorite. I hope to observe the world around me, gaining a fresh wave of creativity as I gear up for the 2013 wedding season!

Photographers, where do you turn for new inspiration? I would love to know! Leave your comments in the box below. 🙂
