MANAGING EXPECTATIONS + SEIZING OPPORTUNITY

I looked back and forth between the weather forecast and the Pinterest inspiration board in front of me.  “Okay Amy, don’t freak out…you can’t control the weather!” I thought to myself.  It didn’t help.   When I really mulled it over, the situation was not dire.  In fact, some might have even been extremely excited to see the predicted cloud coverage all day!  However, my biggest goal for every wedding is pleasing the bride, and in front of me was an entire inspiration sheet with one thing in common, backlit photos.

I called up the bride and explained the situation to her.  “Clouds are GREAT!  Seriously, your skin is going to look so soft and buttery in every photo!”  Then the tougher news.  “I do see you have a lot of photos you like with the sun behind you.  Although your photos are going to be absolutely GORGEOUS…it is going to be hard to achieve this look.”

I think managing expectations is really important!  I always want to go above and beyond to make my clients happy.  In a situation like this, I didn’t want my bride Lori to look at her photos later and be disappointed.  That being said, even if it seems impossible to deliver on a request because of outstanding circumstances, I am still going to try!

It just so happens that this bride is my best friend and I was attending her rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.  I was pulling up to the venue when I saw it.  The SUN…peeking out from in between the trees!  Lori was surrounded by family and friends, but I knew if I didn’t seize this opportunity, I would regret it!  I waited for her to finished her conversation, and then excitedly explained the situation.  I asked her if I could have five minutes with her and the groom, letting her know she would be so happy we did later…and she was!  🙂

Managing expectations is important, but so is exceeding them!  When you have an opportunity to do both successfully, it feels like a good day!

Since every post is better with photos, here are a few of my favorites to bring a little sunshine to your Friday!
