The Hunger Games.  It is all anyone can seem to talk about.  I just finished reading the first book on Monday and only one question is on my mind.  Gale or Peeta?

I think back to when I was a little girl, the same age as Katniss in fact.  At this time, there was nothing I wanted more than a boyfriend.  I have always had a soft spot in my heart for love, however, I could never seem to get it quite right.  I remember one boy in particular, though I am not bold enough to reveal his name.  He had dark hair, a sweet face, and a kind heart.  He was a romantic, and confessed to having a crush on me from a young age.  As nice as he was, I looked at him more as a friend than anything else.  I didn’t want him to be, but he was my Peeta.

Reading about Gale quickly reminded me of Matt.  We were friends first, and saw each other as equals.  We both felt comfortable speaking our minds, even if it meant we were not always in total agreement.  Obvious exclusively to us was the reason we never wanted to be apart, that underlying feeling that told us we were meant to be together forever.

As I listen to the Hunger Games (I bought it on audiobook so I can work and read at the same time 🙂 ) I can’t help but question who I think is better for Katniss, Peeta or Gale.  Peeta, on paper, is the better guy.  He loves Katniss unconditionally, constantly risking his own life just to save hers.  Gale, appearing in the book a fraction of the time Peeta does, still steals my heart.  Katniss never really comes out and says it, but her true love for Gale is evident in her thoughts when she simply hears his name.  I think we have all had a Peeta and a Gale in our lives.  In the end, who did you choose?
