THE GLAZED GAZE

I can’t say I’m not guilty of it too, I definitely am.  The glaze gaze.  A way of disconnecting yourself from the millions of people around you.  You see it everywhere in New York City.  People walking down the street, white earbuds plugged in, staring ahead at nothing.  What are we thinking as we trudge ahead so quickly?

It almost seems like we make our own little worlds.  Instead of engaging with the one around us, we build up protective walls, blinders if you will.  We stare straight ahead as we pass others by.  Smiling seems forbidden and eye contact…just weird.  Living among millions of people, is it possible we end up feeling the one way we should not?  Lonely?

Next time you catch yourself staring straight ahead, glazed gaze locked in…look up.  Catch someone’s eye and smile.  As the weather gets cooler, choose to spread a little warmth.  Hebrews 13:2 says “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” As you go though life, choose to let the light of God shine through you.  Smile with eyes full of love, and a heart bursting with joy.  HAPPY FRIDAY!
